Frequently asked questions

Public agencies can buy through Arizona state contract CTR075309 or 1GPA 22-02PV.

Does EAR sell studio, stage and DMX lighting?

Yes. For television studios, stage designers and event production spaces, EAR Professional Audio Video supplies Chauvet Professional studio and theatrical fixtures (onAir, Ovation and moving heads such as Rogue and Maverick), Kino Flo, Godox, Aputure and Ikan LED lights, DMX consoles and cabling, and studio lighting grid hardware, and designs and installs studio lighting.

What is audio for video?

Audio for video is the sound side of a video production: microphones and wireless systems, mixing, embedding audio into SDI or IP video, loudness control, lip sync, intercom and IFB, and monitoring. It has its own standards, such as ATSC A/85 loudness for US broadcast (-24 LKFS) and SMPTE ST 299 embedded audio in HD-SDI.

What loudness level should broadcast audio meet?

In the US, ATSC A/85 recommends a target loudness of -24 LKFS with true peaks below -2 dBTP, and FCC rules under the CALM Act require TV stations and cable and satellite providers to follow A/85 for commercials. Europe and many streaming workflows use EBU R 128, with an average loudness of -23 LUFS.

How many audio channels can SDI carry?

SMPTE ST 299-1 provides 16 channels of embedded audio in HD-SDI, and ST 299-2 defines channels 17 to 32, used with 3G-SDI. Converters and frame syncs such as the AJA FS-HDR can embed and disembed audio between SDI, MADI and AES.

Does EAR Professional Audio Video install studio systems or only sell equipment?

Both. EAR Professional Audio Video sells individual products and also designs, installs and supports complete studios, including LED video wall studios for Edward Jones and KSAZ FOX 10 and the Arizona House of Representatives video and podcast studio. It also rents equipment with production support.
