EAR Professional Audio Video: Decades of Innovation in Sports Media Technology
For decades, EAR has positioned itself as a pioneering force in the world of professional media‐production systems—and nowhere is that more evident than in our work with sports organizations seeking to stay at the very forefront of media production technology.
EAR’s journey began in 1978 when the company was founded in Tempe, Arizona, primarily serving musicians and local recording studios. Over the years, our company has steadily expanded its scope—first into professional audio, then into video, non-linear editing, and ultimately full systems integration for broadcast and live production.
A breakthrough in sports media
By the mid-1990s, EAR was already making waves in the editing/post-production world. We delivered the first non-linear editing system to an NBA team in 1996; that milestone is more than a footnote—it marks the beginning of a long-standing relationship between EAR and major sports-media workflows.
Our strength lies not just in providing equipment, but in offering complete, integrated solutions: hardware, software, networking/storage, workflow design, training, and long-term support.
Partnering with Sports Organizations
Taking the case of the Arizona Cardinals as an example: Since the 1990s, EAR has worked closely with the team to provide a full range of products and services tailored to manage the team’s expanding media demands. Everyday workflow, highlights, practice footage, internal communications—all of those require robust media-infrastructure and reliable workflows.
EAR’s solution for the Cardinals includes a high-capacity shared storage infrastructure and advanced content-management systems, all installed, configured and supported by our engineering team. These systems allow production staff to seamlessly access, organize and distribute vast quantities of video content—from practice and game footage, to promotional assets and internal communications—meeting the fast-paced demands of a professional sports media operation.
On the Big Stage
When the Cardinals were involved in hosting major events (e.g., Super Bowl XLIX held in Arizona), EAR played a critical role behind the scenes. We provided the editorial and technical support necessary for pre-game content production, ensuring that the team’s media operations performed flawlessly on one of the largest stages in sports. That kind of high-stakes readiness is what sets EAR apart.
The focus on remote editorial and collaboration is especially relevant for modern sports-media workflows. Portable and cloud-hybrid workflows are some of our key offerings, providing features like hardware-accelerated RAID-6 encryption, Thunderbolt/USB4 connectivity, multi-platform support, and durable portable storage solutions.
But EAR’s involvement doesn’t stop at installation and setup. We deliver end-to-end integration, comprehensive staff training, and ongoing technical support for mission-critical collaborative workflow environments. For sports media operations, this includes things like:
Why this matters for sports teams
In a world where fans expect rapid access to highlights, behind-the-scenes content, social-media clips, and multi-platform distribution (web, mobile, social, in-arena displays), sports teams cannot rely on ad-hoc or legacy workflows. They need media-production systems that are fast, reliable, secure, scalable, and operable under pressure. EAR’s decades of experience in broadcast and AV integration means we bring not just gear—but workflow engineering, training, and support.
The media-production ecosystem continues to evolve rapidly: remote production (REMI), cloud workflows, hybrid on-prem plus cloud asset management, ultra-high-resolution formats, distributed workgroups, and security concerns (cyber, content rights) all demand forward-looking solutions.
EAR’s history shows an ability to adapt:
For sports media operations, that means the technology stack must be built not just for today’s game, but for future formats and distribution channels.
